The Passion Week 2007 Day 3
An Eternal Perspective
Scripture Reading:
Matt 24:30-51; Mark 13:26-37; Luke 21:25-36; John 14:1-4
(read these passages online)
Jesus knows He is going to the cross, and in a few days will be raised
again, but still He wants His followers to know the story does not end
when he leaves them.
God's work has eternal endurance, nothing is only for the day. "Heaven
and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away." Jesus
knew the temptation would be great for his followers to slowly return
to life as it was before if they did not know what lied ahead.
Jesus will return. He comes again with power and glory, angels and
trumpets to gather His people to be with Him forever. But there is a
catch, we don't know when that will occur, and Jesus says "Keep watch,
be ready". Jesus encourages His followers to remain faithful to Him and
His ways and not to get caught up in the enticements of the world.
Jesus' death and life restores us to an eternal relationship with an
eternal purpose. When we live only for the light of the day our purpose
will end with nightfall, but living with the light of the Son gives our
life an eternal significance.
Prayer:
-
Thank God that He is eternal, the same yesterday, today and tomorrow
-
Confess the times you have not believed He was who He said He was in your life.
-
Listen to Him tell you how He wants you to trust Him today.
-
Ask Him to increase your faith as you commit to obey Him.
-
Thank Him for being faithful even when you are not.
Meditatation:
John 14:1-4
"Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.
