Mark Experiencing Healthy Relationships

Every day going to school I struggle with seeing the broken relationships that people pretend are normal. It weighs on me, seeing people hurting so much. But at the Bridge, the relationships are those of love and kindness, centered around the one true God. I know it's a cliche, but it's very much a breath of fresh air. I look forward every week to coming to church where I can experience honest growth in Godly relationships.

For me as a person, relationships and especially Godly relationships are very important. Attending UBC, I quickly discovered that Godly relationships are obviously not exactly people's first priorities, and even good relationships are not people's priorities. Getting ahead in the material and business world is important. Getting the grades needed for their degrees are important. Experiencing selfish gratification at the expense of others is important. Living and breathing this environment is very tough for me, seeing such darkness and a hopeless life leading to isolation really weighs on me personally. It's tough for me to go throughout each day, knowing that people's goals are first and foremost for themselves, and that no one really cares about anyone else.

But every Sunday, I'm able to come to the Bridge and experience people who have placed not just Jesus at the center of their lives, but the well-being of others as well. They are willing to sacrifice their own well-being for mine, and for others here. The environment is that of care and love and support through the love of Christ. Pastor Jerry, whose family I knew before coming to the Bridge, has treated me like a son. I meet with Rodney regularly and he's invested a lot in me as a person. I've grown in friendship with many here at the Bridge, and I'd say that most of my closest friends come not from school, but here from the Bridge. The intimacy and friendship here constantly amazes me, and it's refreshing to come here every week and to experience the love of Christ in practice.
