The original audience of the Sermon on the Mount was filled with people who were uncertain about life and, in that uncertainty, tried to find fulfillment by pursuing their own desires. Not much has changed since then. We often find ourselves chasing happiness. However, Jesus teaches us that we aren't to fill our lives with our own pursuits but are happy when we "hunger and thirst for righteousness."
